About BE-CLME+
A regional initiative advancing sustainable blue economy development across the Caribbean
The Caribbean is home to some of the world's most vibrant and diverse marine ecosystems—resources that are deeply connected to the region’s food security, livelihoods, and economic growth. As global and regional priorities increasingly shift toward sustainability, the need for a coordinated Blue Economy approach has never been greater.
The BE-CLME+ Project is a strategic regional initiative advancing sustainable ocean governance across Barbados, Belize, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, and Panama. The project promotes the responsible use of marine resources while strengthening ecological resilience, economic productivity, and social inclusion throughout the Caribbean.
The project is executed by the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) and co-implemented by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, with support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF). Building on the legacy of the CLME and BE-CLME+ programmes, the initiative also aligns with global knowledge networks such as IW:LEARN and LME:LEARN to foster South-South collaboration and shared learning.
